Meet Melinda Lim, Co-founder and Director of ACE Group.

I started my career thinking I would be an engineer, but by my second year of university, I knew it wasn’t my calling. After graduating as a Civil Engineer, I began searching for what I really wanted to do and found myself teaching. More than 30 years later, I’m still in education.

It began when my sister, Anne, asked me to help develop a Math and Science curriculum for tuition. Classes in my living room became a tutoring centre and eventually grew into the three international schools we have today.

Math and Science have always been my focus. Early on, we took up a challenge: educate every student in Pure Sciences and throw out the Science and Arts streams. Students who skipped Pure Sciences at upper secondary had fewer options at college and university, while most Arts courses could still be picked up later.

So we teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology as three distinct subjects from lower secondary, with plenty of activities to help students not only understand them but enjoy them. That doesn’t happen by going easy on students, but by challenging them regularly while helping them see the concepts.

To our parents, thank you for entrusting your children to us. You know from your own working lives that results alone don’t define success; the ability to think, solve problems and work with all kinds of people matters far more. Everything we do is about building those abilities, and helping our students love learning along the way.
